Rocky Mountain National Park holds 72 named peaks above 12,000 feet of elevation. Long Peak, at 14,259 feet, is the northernmost so-called "fourteener" (peak rising above 14,000 ft)
in the Rocky Mountain chain. Rocky Mountain has the highest average elevation of any national
park.......even the main road climbs higher than most U.S. mountains, to 12,183 feet.
Congress established Rocky Mountain National Park in 1915. It is one of over 390 parks in the
National Park System.
After leaving the park we had lunch at theRocky Mountain GatewayRestaurant & Gift Shop at
the entrance to the park. After lunch we went back into Estes Park and I did some more shopping. FUN DAY!!
All the pictures today were taken in Rocky Mountain National Park.............
This picture is of a trail that goes down into
an open area and you can only go so far walking on a wooden bridge and then it stops and there is like a deck to stand on. On the ground is water around the deck..........I think Elk come here to eat and drink.....if you can be there the same time they are you can stand and watch.
