Back In Texas

To all our family and friends..........We are back home in Texas for a few days........Then to Kansas
for a few days for Donna's dads doctor appointment on March 5th.

St. Augustine Beach

Today we went over to St. Augustine Beach .
This is one of the nicest and cleanest beaches we have ever seen.
It was 80 here today but a little windy.......as you can see by my hair.
Along this coast line is St. Augustine Beach, Vilano Beach and Crescent Beach.
The sand is soooooooo fine......you just have to take your shoes off and walk on it.
We will be leaving St. Augustine tomorrow, it has been a lot of fun.
I would have liked to have taken a boat ride or a scenic cruise.......guess next time!!
Historic St. Augustine is a place everyone should visit.
It is full of history and a AWESOME
PLACE!!

Alligator Farm

Today we drove over to St. Augustines Alligator Farm.
I took a lot of pictures but don't know what I did because this
is all I had when I went to put them on the computer.
It had all kinds of alligators, crocodiles, birds, turtles, snakes & monkeys. BUMMER!!!!

Really was a neat place.....

Day 3 in Historic St. Augustine, FL.

Today we went back to Historic St. Augustine to finish our tour.
We toured St. Augustine History Museum first and then toured
the Old Jail.
The Old Jail was quite interesting.
Completed in 1891, The Old Jail housed prisoners for over 60 years. Built by railroad magnate Henry Flagler to resemble a
fine hotel. The Queen Anne style stucco on brick building is on the National Register of Historic Places. The sheriff and his family
lived adjacent to 72 prisoners.

The bridge is called "Bridge Of Lions" , to be completed this year.
Takes you over the water to the Lighthouse and Museum, Alligator Farm and Vilano Beach. We missed the bus by 15 minuets, it was the last one for today.

This is a better picture of the City Gates. Made from coquina (ko-KEE-na) a locally quarried soft shellrock.

This is the Casamonic Hotel......very elite!

When this was built it was the Alcagar Hotel, now it is the
Lightner Museum. Very beautiful building.






The is now Flagler College (1967). First built by Henry Flagler, it was

the Ponce de Leon Hotel. Flagler built it for his friends that would

come from New York to visit him. It cost $200.00 a night, most would stay from January until April.
This is also a very beautiful building.

The cross is 208 feet high. They couldn't make it any higher or

they would have to put a light on top for airplanes so just left it

at the 208 feet.

THE OLD JAIL....


You can see how the jail was built to resemble a hotel. The jail first was beside Flaglers

Ponce de Leon Hotel and he didn't like

that because he didn't want his friends

to have to watch the prisoners going in

and out of the jail so he ask the county

to move it and they told him it would

cost too much so he told them he would

give them the money to build a new jail.

This is the way he wanted it built to resemble a hotel.

The Old Jail
Joe Perry was the most feared sheriff

and remained sheriff for 18 years.









What did "He" do now???
Can't take him any where.

I knew some day he would be put

in the bird cage.

This is what they called it. "Bird Cage"

and then they would hang it in the tree

for everyone to see.
