Big Bend National Park!

On our way to Tucson, Arizona.............

After leaving Jonestown, Texas on Thursday, our first stop was Fort Stockton, Texas where we
decided to spend two nights so we could take a day and drove down to Big Bend National Park. You really need more than one day to take it all in. It was 127 miles to Big Bend from our
RV Park at Fort Stockton.......It was a full day.

Big Bend National Park is surrounded by many different mountains. After enterening the park we stopped at a Fossil Bone
Exhibit and then on to the visitor center..........deciding which road
we should go on because we knew we wouldn't have time enough
to see the whole area. We decided to go the way to Rio Grande Village. This was at the bordor of Mexico & Texas.

Big Bend refers to the great southwest Texas U-turn the Rio Grande makes.......park boundary for 118 miles.
There are many types of cactus (claret cup, prickly pear, pitaya, torrey yucca) this is just a few in the desert part of the park. I would love to see it when they are all in bloom.
There are many Roadrunners......running at speeds up to 20 mph, the roadrunner pursues lizards and small rattlesnakes. It pecks them to death with stunning blows of its beak.

We have seen many National Parks and they ALL are BEAUTIFUL in their own way.

Many kinds of cactus

Most of the time I couldn't get a
picture of a roadrunner...too fast.

This one seems to stop so I could take
his picture.

"Rio Grande Overlook" I took right after we went through the tunnel.

The road mostly went through the desert part and the mountains
were all around.

Mountains are sooooo different!
